PCB Joins the Maldives' First National Right to Information Symposium

The PCB recently took an active role in the Maldives' first-ever national Right to Information (RTI) Symposium, organized by the Information Commissioner's Office - Maldives (ICOM) in partnership with UNDP Maldives.

The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) recently took an active role in the Maldives' first-ever national Right to Information (RTI) Symposium, organized by the Information Commissioner's Office - Maldives (ICOM). Bringing together key stakeholders from across the public sector, local councils, civil society, media, and specialized RTI practitioners, the landmark event served as a vital platform for open dialogue on strengthening access to information and data governance nationwide.

A key highlight of the symposium was a dedicated, high-level panel discussion exploring the critical intersection of RTI and the governance of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). The session featured PCB President Mohamed Nizar as a panelist alongside esteemed representatives from Transparency Maldives, the Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA), State Trading Organization (STO), and Fenaka Corporation, with the discussion being moderated by PCB's Monitoring and Evaluation Director, Usaidh Asadhulla. During the session, President Nizar highlighted the use of the SOE gateway as an effective, one-window platform for accessing information related to state-owned enterprises. Together, the panel addressed the operational and accountability challenges faced by state enterprises, emphasizing that robust information-sharing mechanisms are essential to building public trust, reducing corruption, and driving responsible corporate stewardship.

A huge congratulations to ICOM for successfully bringing together government bodies, Information Officers, Councils, civil society, media, and RTI practitioners for such an important conversation. The PCB’s active participation reflects its ongoing dedication to embedding high standards of transparency, accountability, and strong governance frameworks across the entire state-owned enterprise sector.
